And I found myself unable to stop reading even when I had to try and sleep – I have a feeling this author is going to be one of those that causes me to age prematurely with lack of sleep. Having listened to Paul Thornley’s take on the next Milne story, I am now convinced that Dave John was a bad choice as narrator for this book.

The finale came of quite a surprise to me, for I suspected someone completely else behind all this scheme from somewhere in the middle of the book on. Hungry for revenge and determined to uphold his own very rough brand of justice, Milne’s search for the person behind his friend’s death leaves a trail of death kkernick destruction that is more wide-reaching than even he could have expected.
Although his old friends at the King’s Cross station do not know that Milne is back in town, it soon becomes clear that his arrival has been expected by men who are after his blood. The way that Kernick described the Philippines made it sound like paradise.

If you are looking for a top notch thriller, here it is. Another gooc is that Kernic always had you on the tips of your feet- there was always something happening, which made the book a lot more enjoyable. It even has the same protagonist, the famed Dennis Milne, the guy with the unusual gift of being able to use the last remains of his strength to regain full strength.
He got quite lucky, not to die in the first few chapters already, and with the help of friends, or not so friends, or not so enemies he closes into the case more and more. Milne isn’t really fond of killing but generally gold rationalize his actions because of the deviant behavior of his targets—pedophiles, psychopaths and the like. Despite interest from a number of publishers Kernick was unable to secure a deal, so he joined the sales force of the specialist IT and Business Consultancy Metaskil plc in Aldermaston, Berkshire in where he remained until he secured his first book deal The Business of Dying in September Mar 20, Dan rated it it was ok.

Didn’t see the outcome coming either! I really enjoyed this second novel and novel it was.
I quite enjoy this series. Milne only kills people who deserve it. The Payback Simon Kernick. Dennis Milne is a fascinating character, disgraced copper, assassin but has his own sense of justice. Sep 17, Sabrina Leblanc rated it liked it.
Milne feels eay strong need to return to the UK to avenge Malik’s death. From the dayy of the Philippines to the mean streets of London, a hunt for justice becomes a terrifying battle for survival. Even if I wouldn’t recommend this, it did have a reasonable plot, but not well enough executed in my opinion, and the narration reminded me of Phil Daniels talking Blur’s Parklife.
