DIARIOS DE BICICLETA: DAVID BYRNE: : Books
It’s about David Byrne cycling about cities, discussing his curiosity with urban design, art, and philosophy. Interesting book with some good points though boring in byrhe parts.
But ignoring that, I enjoyed is observations on: Byrne is just too interested about too many different things to stick with one topic, and that was fine with me. It’s a beautiful, diaruos and honest view of some of the places in America you’d probably never ever care to see.
Beyond my own love of bicycling, I found this book to be warm, engaging and thoroughly enjoyable.
I travelled mostly for work but did not have the smarts or luxury of bringing a bike with me. Far more interesting than I initially thought it might be. A neither or nor type of book for me. Of course, Byrne comes back to New York City in the end, as is both understandable and appropriate. Commentaries on planning, on transport, and seemingly anything else that occasionally comes to mind, weave through this book in as unplanned a way as his travels.
And that shows in a seemingly effortless way. David Byrne is an interesting and intelligent chap, and I too am interested in urban design and philosophy – less so about art perhaps, but it’s OK, I can cope with art – but the thing is Partially, therefore, this book is an interesting travelogue of a rock star and artist; we get to know what Chicago is like, London, Berlin, and many other places.

The returned product s must be in new condition and, if possible, with its original packaging. It’s best when he’s sounding more relaxed using fun words like the aforementioned “yikes” and a personal favourite “fuck” ed, and when he’s discussing urban design – especially in relation to cycling – and actual stuff he did rather than pondering some intellectual puzzle or trying too hard with the poetic phrasing.
He is not a conventional tourist. Byrne, while maybe not a ‘super-star,’ is an extremely intelligent, cool person who gets to spend a lot of time with other extremely intelligent, cool people. He lives in New York and he recently added some new bike racks of his own design around town, thanks to the Bicicletaa of Transportation. Bicycle Diaries is both a travelogue and a work with a definite agenda, but it’s also full of pointed asides and extended ruminations about architecture, sociology and politics, outsider art, the likely nature of artificial intelligence, and of course about music too.
This davidd is a celebration of bike riding – of the rewards of seeing the world at bike level. As the product of an byrnee of many media, the book is not some plain, printed artifact. Israel, Palestina, Dakota del Sur, Tibet But pervasively and persistently throughout this book though sometimes subtlyDavid Byrne takes sneering potshots at the philistines whose fingerprint is visible everywhere he looks. He bounces giddily between reflections on city planning, geography, history, contemporary daivd, cultural anthropology, music, etc.
Seems he’s found himself a city to live in. Customers who viewed this item also viewed: It sounds so glamorous but though his writing we learn there is little fe on the road and there is less glamour on two wheels–which is the beauty of this book.
